GCC 16 for Amiga - New m68k-amigaos-gcc and OpenAmigaGCC Releases

New versions of two GCC 16 toolchains for developing software for classic Amiga computers have been released. m68k-amigaos-gcc 16.2-rc20 updates a development environment that includes GCC 16.2.1, binutils, newlib, vbcc, vasm and vlink, while OpenAmigaGCC 16.2.0-open3 focuses on AmigaOS 3.x compatibility and integration with OpenNDK libraries. Both projects enable developers to compile Motorola 68k applications on modern computers.

m68k-amigaos-gcc 16.2-rc20 fixes C++ iostream linking issues, an sscanf() regression in libnix and a stack buffer overflow in printf() when formatting long sequences of zeros. The libnix library now includes C99 mathematical functions such as fma() and fmaf(), while the compiler improves global function optimisation for applications using the -fbaserel and -resident options. The previous rc19 release also introduced faster 64-bit multiplication on 68040 and 68060 processors.

OpenAmigaGCC 16.2.0-open3 replaces the previous libamiga.a library with an OpenNDK-based implementation built for different CPU configurations. It also improves automatic selection of mathematical libraries for 68020, 68030 and 68040 processors without an FPU, while retaining support for hardware floating-point operations. The developers have additionally verified ARexx integration, stack argument handling and soft-float configurations.

The first toolchain is available for AmigaOS, Windows, macOS and Linux, while OpenAmigaGCC provides prebuilt tools for Linux x86-64.
